Nearly 20,000 tourists visited Machu Picchu since reopening

A total of 19,768 tourists visited the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu since its reopening on April 1st, reported the National Institute of Culture (INC) in Cuzco.

According to INC statistics, 18,178 tourists (15,950 foreigners and 2,228 Peruvians) visited Machu Picchu between April 1 and 14, while there were 1,590 visitors on April 15.

Every day nearly 1,500 tourists visit Peru’s No. 1 tourist site which reopened after a two-month closure due to floods that washed out the rail link to the mountaintop ruins.

INC also reported that 1,992 tourists, all of them foreigners, hiked the ancient Inca Trail in the first half of April.
