The Department of Arequipa, in southern Peru, expects to attract some 25000 visitors in July due to increased tourist flow in national holiday season, the president of the Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Avit) in Arequipa Carmela Llerena reported.
Last month, Arequipa attracted some 12,000 foreign and national tourists, so expectations are higher this time around.
During this season, most tourists come from Lima, and cities such as Trujillo in La Libertad and Chiclayo in Lambayeque, both located in northern Peru.
Llerena said about 25000 tourists are expected for August, Arequipa’s anniversary month, attracted by artistic and cultural activities.
In July and August, Avit will offer packages for homestay tourism to Colca Valley.
Colca Valley is one of the main Arequipa’s tourist destinations and 99% of tourists visiting the department head to Caylloma province to enjoy its natural beauty and local costumes
In turn, Arequipa will promote Loncco route which combines gastronomy, archaeology, and ancient costumes.
