Peru’s National Statistics Institute (INEI) said Friday that the number of foreign tourists visiting the country in April this year was 201,543, a 6.4 percent rise compared to the same month last year.
This result was mainly explained by the entry of aliens through the border post of Santa Rosa between Tacna and Arica, and offsets the decline in tourist arrivals reported by the Immigration Department at Jorge Chavez International Airport.
According to the technical report “Evolucion del Movimiento Migratorio Peruano” (Evolution of Migratory Behavior) 50 percent of tourists came from Chile, 12.7 percent from the United States, 6.6 percent from Ecuador, 5.6 percent from Spain, 5.1 percent from Bolivia, 4.3 percent from Colombia, 3.5 percent from Argentina, 3.3 percent from Brazil, among others.
If classified by gender, 59.1% of foreigners visiting Peru were men and 40.9% were women.
