Colca Valley, located in Arequipa southern Peru, expects the arrival of 25,000 national and foreign tourists this month as 13,854 people have already visited the valley from August 1-17, said the Head of Autonomous Authority of Colca (Autocolca) Jose Luis Talavera Suarez
The main tourist flow was registered a few days before Arequipa’s anniversary (August 15), when the valley hosted over 800 people per day.
“Tourists who visit Arequipa in August are highly motivated to participate in the city’s anniversary, mainly on August 14-15, that’s why tourism increases significantly on those days”, Talavera said.
For the rest of August, Autocolca expects a higher tourist flow as lots of people want to visit Arequipa in its anniversary and know Colca Valley.
Talavera recalled that Autocolca registered the arrival of 18,699 tourists in Colca Valley last August.
So far this year, Colca Valley has received 101,479 tourists, and 146,818 visitors in 2009.
