Day 01.- CUSCO – PISKACUCHO – WAYLLABAMBA

Starts: Piscacucho 2680 msnm. (8962 Ft) Campsite: Wayllabamba 3060 msnm. (10039 Ft)

Distance to cover: 11 km, or 7 miles Hiking time: 5 to 6 hours approx.

We will pick you up from your hotel in our comfortable private bus till the locality of Piskacucho located at km 82 from the railway of Cusco – Machupicchu. At the Inca based bridge is the check in point to enter to the Inca Trail and the place where this exciting adventure in the Andes starts. Roughly at 10am. we will start our walk towards the archeological site of Llactapata, the largest ruins at the Inca trail, this walk is going to be gentle and a good warm up for the second part of the day, Then at Hatunchaca our staff of cooks and porters will give us a delicious lunch, after a brief rest we will restart to walk, and approximately 2 hours later we will arrive to the Andean community of Wayllabamba place of our first camp.

Day 02.- WAYLLABAMBA – WARMIWAÑUSCA – PAQAYMAYU

Start: Wayllabamba 3060 msnm. (10039 Ft.) Campsite: Paqaymayu 3580 msnm. (11745 Ft.)

Distance to cover: 12km (7.5 miles) Hiking Time: 7 to 8 hours aprox.

Early in the morning we start our walk towards the highest point of the Inca trail, in this path we will have the opportunity of observing different climates and microclimates passing through the rain woodlands of Yuncachimpa till the grassy mountain of Warmiwañusca and after a slow ascent we will arrive at 4200msnm that is the highest pass on this hike, moreover we will have the opportunity of appreciate the majesty of the Andes, after a brief rest we will restart the descent towards a place where is going to wait a warm lunch, After it we restart the trek towards Paqaymayu’s as known as well as river of the dawn where our team will be waiting for us with the camp and dinner ready.

Day 03 .- PAQAYMAYU – CHAQUICOCHA – WIÑAYWAYNA

Starts: Paqaymayu 3580msnm. (11745 Ft.) Camp: Wiñaywayna 2600msnm. (8500 Ft.)

Distance to cover : 14km (8.7 miles) Hiking time: 7 to 8 hours approx.

After our breakfast we will start our journey towards the archeological site of Runkurakay, where we will have the opportunity of know a bit more this place, we retake the path and we will pass by two high Andean lagoons till arrive to the second highest pass at 3850msnm (12631 Ft.), this pass takes the same name of the archaeological site visited before. A descend waits for us up to Sayacmarca or Dominant Town, where from it is possible to enjoy an impressive view of the valley of the Aobamba, there the path ascends a bit towards the clouded forest until Phuyupatamarca or village on the clouds. This archaeological group possesses one beautiful ritual fountain, a leafy vegetation and a spectacular panoramic view of the valley of the river Urubamba. After a brief rest we will start descending across the clouded forest by a series of long steps that take us towards Wiñaywayna or Forever Young. Our third camp waits for us, we will have free time to visit and to explore the surroundings.

Day 04.- WIÑAYWAYNA – MACHUPICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES

Starts: Wiñaywayna 2600msnm. (8500 Ft.) Final destination: Machu Picchu 2400msnm. (7874 Ft.)

Distance to cover: 6km (3.75 miles) Hiking Time: 2 hours approx.

Very early in the morning we will begin a trek of approximately two hours, up to Inti Punku’s sector or Sungate and will have the opportunity to admire the sunrise on the majestic city of Machu Picchu. From there we restart the descending till the city where we will register our arrival in the check out point, then we will start our visit of approximately 2 hours and a half. Then you will have sufficient time to be able to explore and discover by yourselves the mysteries that hides this enigmatic city. Later we will descend by bus to the settlement of Aguas Calientes and we will finally approach the train with direction to Ollantaytambo, where a bus will wait for you to lead you up to your hotel in the city of the Cuzco. Machupicchu was recently honored to be part of the New 7 wonders of the World, plus its one of the top World Heritages on the list of UNESCO. It is not mentioned in any of the chronicles on the Spanish colony. Nowadays no one can exactly say on its function. It been studied for scientist for decades but many unanswered questions remain. The town was forgotten on the time for centuries and covered by the rich vegetation until July 24th 1911 when the American historian Hiram Bigham was led by 11 year old boy and made the scientific discovery of Machupicchu. Actually he was in the search of the lost town of Vilcabamba.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Those passengers not interested or able to the hike the Inca Trail, can choose to spend 2 days in Cuzco, then travel by train to Aguas Calientes. Next morning they take and early bus to the Machu Picchu entrance and meet the hikers at the ruins. Please advise your travel agent or Footprint Expeditions if you decide not to do the hike the Inca Trail at the booking time. Also note that the Inca trail will be closed for a general maintenance during the the month february Note: * The camps are subject to authorization of the Unit of Machupicchu’s Management and the availability of spaces is determined by the INC. Therefore the camps before mentioned are referential. * The passengers who want to visit Huayna Picchu, will have to report to the guide as soon as possible before arriving at Machupicchu, since there exists new regulation that limits the number of visitors per day to only 400 persons and is necessary to register and moreover is only possible to enter till 11am.

Dia 01: Cusco – Abra Málaga – Monterosa

La aventura comienza con un viaje en autobús desde su hotel en el Cuzco o Ollantaytambo Hacia el Abra Málaga paso ubicado a 4.317 metros sobre el nivel del mar o 14.246 pies, al llegar es posible observar el paso de la majestuosa montaña Verónica 5800 msnm nivel o 19.140 pies. Subirás a una bicicleta de montaña y comenzar a descender de las montañas andinas a través de la pequeña meseta andina, donde podemos ver los bosques de los andes, luego seguirás rodando por encima de las nubes y sumergir por debajo del bosque de nubes, la flora es abundante, con miles de especies de árboles y cientos de especies de aves como el colibrí y el gallito de las rocas peruano famosa ave nacional del Perú, El paisaje es impresionante teniendo cruzar muchas pequeñas quebradas y pequeñas cascadas. Por la tarde podremos disfrutar de un almuerzo en nuestro Proyecto de Arboles de Monterosa. Después del almuerzo, visitaras nuestro proyecto y asistir a una presentación acerca de las prácticas sostenibles. Después de la cena pueden jugar algunos juegos de salón

Dia 02:Monterosa – Huamanmarca – Colcalmayo

Temprano en la mañana visitamos nuestro proyecto de árboles y podrás plantar árboles, se puede tener la opción de patrocinar un árbol durante dos años hasta que se convierta en autosuficiente. Cruzaremos el río en una Oroya y la caminata empezara por un camino inca original que nos llevara hacia las ruinas incas de Huamanmarca. La distancia de este camino son unos 10km. o 6,5 millas. En esta caminata es posible observar la fauna y flora silvestres como las orquídeas, helechos, así como plantaciones de café y té y una gran variedad de plantas frutales como naranjas, plátanos, papayas, mandarinas, etc… La excursión termina en las ruinas de Huamanmarca. Después del almuerzo nos trasladaremos a las aguas termales de Cocalmayo considerado uno de los mejores en el Perú. Donde será nuestro campamento.

Día 03: Cocalmayo – Canopy – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes

Después de media hora de viaje en bus llegamos ah Cola de Mono. El Canopy “Cola de Mono” es una actividad de aventura que consiste en cables anclados de una montaña a otra, donde una persona se desliza por medio de una polea enganchada a un arnés de cintura. para luego tomar nuestro almuerzo que nuestro equipo nos tendrá listo para luego trasladarnos había Hidroeléctrica y tomar el tren a Aguas Calientes. Día 04: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Cusco

Machu Picchu, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1983 y elegida una de las 7 nuevas maravillas del mundo en el año 2007 Machupicchu (literalmente, en quechua, montaña vieja) habría sido uno de los principales, sino el principal, santuario religioso de los incas. Está considerado como una de las más geniales obras de arquitectura e ingeniería de todos los tiempos, y esto sumado a todo el misterio y misticismo que encierra, lo ha convertido en uno de los sitios turísticos más populares de América.

Este es el día más destacado de nuestro viaje. Bien temprano en la mañana, empezamos con un paseo de aproximadamente dos horas y media por la Ciudadela de Machupicchu en compañía de un guía profesional. Luego, tiempo libre para explorar las bellezas y los misterios de la Cuidad Perdida de los Incas. Al final de la tarde, tren y traslado de vuelta a nuestro hotel en Cuzco.

NOTA IMPORTANTE: Pasajeros que no deseen realizar el Inca Cloud Forest, pueden optar por pasar dos días extras en Cuzco y luego trasladarse en tren hasta Aguas Calientes. En la mañana siguiente acceder al Machupicchu en micro y reunirse con el resto del grupo en las ruinas. Por favor, notifique a su agente de viajes o a Journey Experience en el momento de efectuar su reserva si desea o no hacer el camino inca.

DIA 1.- CUSCO – CHACHABAMBA – WIÑAYWAYNA – MACHU PICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES

Temprano por la mañana, lo trasladaremos desde su hotel hasta la estación de Ollantaytambo, donde abordaremos el tren que nos llevara hasta el Km. 104, punto de inicio de esta aventura en el país de los Incas. El Inca trail inicia cruzando el puente sobre el río Urubamba, y de ahí se inicia un suave ascenso hacia el bosque nublado, en este trayecto es posible observar una gran diversidad de flora y fauna así como también restos arqueológicos Incas. Aproximadamente Tres horas mas tarde estaremos llegando al conjunto arqueológico de Wiñaywayna (Nombre con el que los lugareños llaman a una variedad de pequeñas orquídeas que abundan por la zona y significa “Siempre Joven” debido a que florece todo el año), Este será el lugar de nuestro almuerzo y luego reiniciaremos nuestra caminata hasta llegar al atardecer al sector de Inti Punku (Puerta del Sol), lugar desde el cual tendremos una vista de la ciudadela de Machupicchu que nos quitara el aliento. En este día solo pasaremos por los alrededores pues tendremos que descender al poblado de Aguas Calientes para pasar la noche y al día siguiente quizás podamos descubrir los enigmas y secretos que Machu Pichu han guardado por cientos de años.

DIA 2.- AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU – AGUAS CALIENTES – CUSCO

Muy temprano por la mañana, tomaremos un bus que nos conducirá hasta la famosa ciudad Perdida de los Incas, podremos observar la salida del Sol y después iniciar una visita guiada de mas o menos 2 horas por las zonas de mayor importancia e interés. Después tendrán tiempo suficiente para poder explorar y descubrir las maravillas que Machu Picchu nos ofrece. Posteriormente descenderemos en bus al poblado de Aguas Calientes para finalmente abordar el tren con dirección a Ollantaytambo donde un bus los espera para conducirlos hasta vuestro hotel en la ciudad del Cuzco. Declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1983, Machu Picchu (literalmente, en quechua, montaña vieja) habría sido uno de los principales ciudades construidas en el proceso de conquistar la selva y tierras bajas, ricas en alimentos, plantas medicinales y coca. Considerado como santuario religioso y astronómico de los Incas y una de las más geniales obras de arquitectura e ingeniería de todos los tiempos y todo esto sumado a todos los enigmas y misticismo que lo encierran. Machu Picchu quedo abandonado y olvidado en el tiempo y rápidamente se fue cubriendo de espesa y densa vegetación durante los siguientes casi cuatro siglos, hasta el año 1911 cuando el Historiador Americano Hiram Bigham, hizo el descubrimiento científico de la Ciudad Perdida de los Incas.

* Los clientes que quieran visitar Huayna Picchu, deberán comunicar lo más antes posible ya que existe nueva disposición de un número determinado de visitantes, solo los primeros 400 de la lista, por lo que deberán inscribirse en dicha lista el cuarto día muy temprano.
